Welcome to the Light Reading House website!
LRH is a non-profit organisation that delivers creative writing opportunities to young people in the outer-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It is our mission to support young people in developing their own creative and critical voices, so they can become active and meaningful contributors to their world.
After-school sessions: In 2016 after-school writing groups were held at Patterson River Secondary College. Throughout 2017 school holiday workshops were also delivered at PRSC. In 2018, we are hoping to secure a writing studio in Frankston where we will offer much more regular sessions! These groups involve getting help with written homework and doing fun creative exercises. Click on the link to find out how you can help us get our very own studio!
Holiday workshops: Every school holiday period, young people are invited to attend Lighthouse Workshops. Each session targets an age group between 8-18 years old! Young people leave the workshops with tools to continue writing and opportunities to submit work to be published! Look out for programs in 2018 at our new studio!
Incursions: Schools are invited to host Lighthouse Workshops in their own school! For a class group or a year level, workshops can be targeted to meet your needs. Past workshops have included a morning session with Year 7 students called 'How To Terrify Your Readers'. Schools have the option of hosting a one-off workshop, or a series of regular sessions that work towards a final goal of publication.
Join LRH in our mission to share creative opportunities to local young people! You can contact us to find out about taking part or becoming a volunteer at our workshops!
