One of the most original and innovative minds I've had the pleasure of teaching had a go at designing a logo for Light Reading House. Ciara is studying Fine Arts at Monash and is the first person I think of when art, beauty and creativity is required. I asked Ciara to do me a favour and exercise her creativity with the briefest of briefs; the conversation went something along the lines of:
Rach: "It's a social enterprise to do with literacy for kids. It's called Light Reading House... So I need something to do with a lighthouse and a book?"
Ciara: "No worries, gal". And off she went, in true Ciara style, taking my odd, brief, underdeveloped request in her stride. This is what she came up with:

As soon as I saw it, the English teacher in me went into analysis mode. Light and knowledge born from an open book. That light being used to guide others. Young people who walk through those doors will use the insight that reading can give to light up the world. It is exactly what I wanted... and I'm in awe of how Ciara was able to grasp it with such little direction! I'm so grateful to this young woman and I feel comfortable that the creative future of this world is in safe hands, with people like her chasing their artistic dreams.
I'm so happy that anyone with an interest in what Light Reading House is about now has another avenue of insight. Look forward to seeing the new logo anywhere I can stick it... I'm so proud to show it off!
